Voice


Voice classes are offered in beginning, intermediate and advanced levels in Western Classical, Musical Theatre and Contemporary singing styles. Students have the opportunity to appear for Singing exams offered through the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, London and Musical Theatre Examinations offered through the London College of Music.

We have several accomplished singers, voice therapists, clinicians, educators from round the world who regularly visit Harmony and facilitate masterclasses and seminars for our students including soprano Pamela Hinchman (U.S.A.), soprano Harrah Friedlander (U.S.A.), mezzo-soprano Astrid Müller (Germany), jazz singer Pauline Warjri (Shillong).

For Children: (3 years to 16 years)

Group Instruction is available for children trough the ‘Comprehensive Musicianship Program. Students from the age of three and a half to sixteen are grouped according to their age and lessons are offered in voice, diction, sight-singing, ear-training, composition, improvisation, music theory and beginning piano. Other areas will be taught according to the competency and maturity of the class like arranging, orchestration, counterpoint etc.

Students will perform at recitals and concerts organized by the school.

Time: 1 hour/ once a week

Audition Requirement: None

Note: Private voice instruction is not available or recommended for children below the age of fifteen

For Adults: (17 and above)

Group Class: Instruction covers building great technique, working on vocal range, diction (including IPA), sight-singing, ear-training, music theory, voice care. This class is suitable for students who have never had voice lessons or are new to singing or for those who have not had any formal lessons in music theory. Students will perform at recitals and concerts organized by the school.

Audition Requirement: None

Time: 1 Hour/once a week.

Private Instruction: Students enrolled for private lessons must have some prior singing experience. This class is suitable for advanced students who would like to appear for graded examinations, prepare for international music competitions, prepare for auditions held at music colleges around the world, professionally perform or record music. Students will be selected based on audition material sent or a live audition at Harmony. Classes will include studying about the physiology of the voice, vocal health and care, techniques to build strength and longevity, singing in various styles, interpretation and the music of several composers, music theory, sight singing, advanced ear training, diction (including IPA) and diet for the singer. Students are expected to perform at recitals and concerts organized by the school.

Time: 45 minutes/once a week

Audition Requirements: Please send us a clear video recording of yourself singing

1. An accompanied song in the style that’s most comfortable to you.

2. An unaccompanied song in a contrasting style.

Both songs should be no longer than eight minutes.

Voice Therapy


Students who have damaged their voice due to vocal abuse or other reasons will receive training on voice rehabilitation, diet, care and longevity. Depending on the severity of the case, vocal exercises and songs will be introduced slowly.

Time: 45 minutes/ once a week

Chorus


Singing in a choir can be one of the most rewarding experiences of learning music! The joy that students get when creating exquisite harmony remains unparalleled. Choir members often look forward to this time spent learning to refine their sound, growing musically and performing as a group.

Audition Requirement: Students enrolled in the Comprehensive Musicianship Program, Group Classes and Private Voice Lessons will be auditioned to be a part of the Harmony Chorus. There are three groups based on competency and vocal maturity- Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus and Competition Chorus.

Time: 5-6:30 PM every Thursday.

Piano


Piano classes are offered in beginning, intermediate and advanced piano. Students may opt to appear for piano examinations offered through the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, London, Trinity College of Music and London College of Music or undergo guided study at Harmony. Our emphasis is not on sending students for examinations alone, but to develop a love and deep understanding of the instrument and music as a whole. Students are encouraged to be a part of recitals, concerts and masterclasses held at the school and at

other venues. We have had eminent pianists Natallia Kapylova (Russia), Pauline Warjri (Shillong) offer masterclasses at the school.

Private Instruction: Students enrolled for private classes will be introduced to building up their technique, listening skills, sensitivity to playing styles, the music of various composers, composition, improvisation, music theory, chords and chord progressions. They will be selected to appear for the international music examinations earning credits, as soon as the teacher recognizes them as being capable. We use different method books including John Thompson, Michael Aaron and Piano Adventures along with the examination material and other music provided based on the student’s music maturity and level of competency.

Time: 45 minutes/ once a week.

Guitar


Guitar classes are offered in beginning, intermediate and advanced rhythm and lead guitar. Students will be introduced to various styles and encouraged to arrange and compose music. They are required to be a part of recitals, concerts and masterclasses held at the school and at other venues.

In the past students have had the privilege of attending a masterclasses with talented and accomplished classical guitarist Martin Vän-Hees (Holland). Harmony provides opportunities to it’s students to attend concerts, recitals and masterclasses facilitated by several musicians from around India and the world.

Private Instruction: Rhythm guitar lessons are offered to help students build their dexterity, strength and to enhance their playing style. Students are encouraged to bring music that they would like to learn apart from the music the instructor provides. We don’t send students for any examinations but do provide multiple opportunities for them to perform on a regular basis depending on the level of proficiency.

Violin


Violin classes are offered in beginning and intermediate violin. Students may opt to appear for violin examinations offered through the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, London, Trinity College of Music and London College of Music or undergo guided study at Harmony. Our emphasis is not on sending students for examinations alone, but to develop a love and deep understanding of the instrument and music as a whole. Students are encouraged to be a part of recitals, concerts and masterclasses held at the school and at other venues.

In the past we have hosted accomplished violinists Maria Cherednikova (Russia), Joyce Meade (U.S.A.) and Astrid Müller (Germany) who worked with our students in masterclasses.

Private Instruction: Students enrolled for private classes will be introduced to building up their bowing technique, listening skills, sensitivity to playing styles, the music of various composers, composition, improvisation, music theory. They will be selected to appear for the international music examinations earning credits, as soon as the teacher recognizes them as being capable. We use different method books including Suzuki, Eta Cohen along

with the examination material and other music provided based on the students music maturity and level of competency.

Audition Requirement: None

Time: 45 minutes/ once a week.

Drums


Drum classes are offered in beginning, intermediate and advanced drum set. Students may opt to appear for drum examinations offered through the Trinity College of Music, London or undergo guided study at Harmony. Our emphasis is not on sending students for examinations alone, but to develop a love and deep understanding of the instrument and music as a whole. Students are encouraged to be a part of recitals, concerts and masterclasses held at the school and at other venues.

Private Instruction: Students enrolled for private classes will be introduced to building up their drum technique, listening skills, sensitivity to playing styles, improvisation and music theory for percussion. They will be selected to appear for the international music examinations earning credits, as soon as the teacher recognizes them as being capable. We use different method books including books by our drum instructor, other music provided based on the students music maturity and level of competency as well as examination material.

Time: 45 minutes/ once a week.

Music Theory


Helping students connect the dots in music has been one of our primary goals. While most classes at Harmony offer music theory as a part of the class when a student is studying an instrument, we also cater to students from other schools who have not been introduced to music theory or ear training.

Group Lessons: We offer intensive group instruction for working professionals and music teachers periodically. If you are interested in the same do write to us to stay in touch and find out when the next batch will commence.

Private Instruction: If you are interested to appear for the music theory examination offered through Trinity College of Music or Associated Board for Royal Schools of Music, London, you can sign up with us. Lessons are offered for all grade levels and will cover systematic instruction through the examination material as well as counterpoint, orchestration, harmonic analysis.
